Although no rain fell, the overcast skies had the final say on Day 1 as Stumps was called due to bad light with 15 overs still to bowl. The England Lions will be disappointed with their progress after winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Australia A finish the day 3/262. However, today was all about Kurtis Patterson, he's unbeaten on 126 having played a patient innings, cashing in on the bad balls offered to him. He combined with Jayden Goodwin (70) and Josh Philippe (54 not out off 54 balls) to give his side the upper hand in this contest. Sonny Baker was the standout bowler for the England Lions, he bowled tighter and beat the bat more than anyone else, although for limited reward (1/27 from 13 overs with 6 maidens). Given this is only a four-day match, Australia A might look to increase the run rate and push for a declaration in the first session tomorrow to apply pressure on their opposition. Regardless, Australia A are firmly in control and it will take a big effort from the visitors to get back in it. See you tomorrow for a slightly early start.
